What are your favorite sports to watch and play?
Author’s Note: This is the first post of a new series on the blog, where I answer writing prompts generated by WordPress.
The first sport that I enjoy watching (and I played as a teenager) is Ice Hockey. I began watching hockey on a regular basis on October 7th, 2000. That night, I watched the very first game that my hometown Columbus Blue Jackets ever played. Despite scoring 3 times in a span of less than two minutes, they would lose 5-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks. Despite that, my family and I would watch more games on TV before finally seeing one in person at Nationwide Arena on December 29, 2000. a Blue Jackets victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Not long after that, my mother enrolled my sister and I in learn to skate classes, which eventually led me to learning how to play hockey and playing in a local youth league as a teenager. Sadly I was forced to sell my hockey gear due to my parents contentioius divorce in 2009, but I still skate from time to time. For a number of seasons during the first years of the Jackets, my family had season tickets.
The other sport that I have plenty of experience with is Cycling. As a kid, I would frequently ride around the neigborhood that I grew up in, as well as a nearby park. Sadly I was forced to get rid of the bike before a move that was triggered by my parents divorce. It would be several years before I got my Trek 8.2DS in 2014. I rode sporadically after the first years that I had the bike, but that changed when I moved back to my old neighborhood, and became involved with Pelotonia.
