My apologies for not getting to this sooner-have been dealing with a few health problems of my own over the last few weeks, in addition to everything else that I have been dealing with. Before I get into Challenger Goal #2, I have a little bit of housekeeeping that I need to address before I begin. First up is that I successfully completed my first Challenger Goal: 5 virtual rides using the VZFit app on my Meta Quest 2 before April 19, 2024, going for 28.7 miles in total. The rides took me (in my headset) from major cities like Baltimore and San Jose, CA, to rural areas such as Iowa and Amish Country in Ohio, and a ride with a view at the Red Rocks Ampitheater in Colorado.
My other piece of news is that the route was officially finalized for Ride Weekend in August, and I will be riding 30 miles instead of the previously announced 35 miles when I registered back in February, more details on that in a future post. As always, my fundraising page at pelotonia.org has all of the lastest information regarding my route this year. With that, here is Challenger Goal #2
The nice thing about being a virtual participant in Pelotonia is the ability to chose the activities that you want to do while raising money for cancer research. It does not necessarily mean that all of my goals have to be fitness related, and one of the themes that I have chosen for this year is to lean into my creative side (I created all of the graphics and videos that are on my social media sites using Adobe Express.) I am also taking the opportunity to revisit one of my favorite activities as a child: Playing with Legos (believe it or not, I still have most of them in a large bin in my closet.) For this goal however, I will use my laptop in home, instead of running the risk of my mother or grandmother stepping on a stray brick.
Challenger Goal #2 for 2024 will be a Lego Design Challenge using the BrickLink Studio app on Windows (not available on the App Store or Google Play at this time, but is available on MacOS, and is free to download) The goal is to create four projects of my choosing (ranging from Buildings to Vehicles) and complete this by June 14 (there will be a little bit of an overlap with Challenger Goal #3) The only limit for this challenger goal is my imagination. The results will be posted on my social media pages upon completion.
Finally, I have one final piece of news as I wrap this post up: The first outdoor training ride will take place on Friday (will only be about 8-10 miles to start) and my 30 mile training rides will take place on July 14, July 21, and July 28. I am also in the process of putting together a fundraising event around my Birthday in September, and a virtual fundraising sale in July.
